It was certainly a wake-up call.

Gunfire targeting a Humboldt Hill home early this morning awakened the sleeping residents and sent them diving for cover, as bullets randomly splattered their house and vehicle in either a vengeful act of payback or a case of mistaken identity.

Today, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a 24-year-old Eureka woman who reported her residence in the 2200 block of Hillcrest Drive in Eureka had just been shot at, the HCSO said in their release.

Deputies responded to the residence and met with the woman, along with another 48-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man who resided in the residence.

The woman told the deputies at approximately 12:30 a.m. this morning, she let her dog outside into their fenced yard.  When she was outside with the dog she saw a large, full-sized pickup truck parked at the base of their driveway with five Asian adult males standing outside the truck.

They asked her if a man lived in her home.  She told him the man they were asking for did not live at her residence.

They then asked if her adult son was home and then they all walked up to the woman’s gate.  She told them to leave or she would call law enforcement.  They all left, with one of the men brazenly telling her they could care less if she called
law enforcement.

At approximately 4:50 a.m., the woman and her other family members were in bed asleep when they heard several gunshots.

Several of the rounds struck the bedroom window where the 24-year-old woman (daughter of the 48 year old woman) was sleeping.  Other rounds struck vehicles in front of their home.  Altogether at least six rounds were shot at the home and vehicles.

The victims believe the Asian men who were at their home earlier may be involved.  The truck was described as a white, full-sized Ford F350.  The men were described as being in their 20s; no further description was provided.

No one was injured in the shooting.
